A Sylvan Lake woman is due to be sentenced next month for her role in a central Alberta drug trafficking operation.

Emily Jean Herman, 22, is scheduled to be sentenced in Red Deer provincial court Nov. 22.

Herman was charged with 16 counts following an eight-day RCMP investigation in 2019 that also led to the arrest of Dallas Anthony Griffin.

Griffin, 34, was handed a 56-month sentence on Oct. 20 after being convicted on nine of his 17 original charges. With credit for pre-trial custody, Griffin has over 24 months still to serve behind bars.

Griffin and Herman were among three people originally charged in the July 2019 drug trafficking bust by local Mounties.

That’s when RCMP revealed the results of a joint investigation where Red Deer RCMP and Sylvan Lake RCMP General Investigation Sections arrested three people and seized drugs, cash, weapons, and three hand grenades.

Between June 18 and June 26 of that year, police conducted an investigation into a drug trafficking operation in both Red Deer and Sylvan Lake. On June 27, 2019, a search warrant was executed at a Sylvan Lake residence.

As a result of the search, officers seized 416 grams of methamphetamine, 17 grams of fentanyl, 1.5 grams of cocaine, three hand grenades, body armour, seven firearms, ammunition, and $25,528 in cash.

A third individual, Lincoln Capel of Red Deer, was also arrested during the search on outstanding warrants and charged with possession of a controlled substance, and failing to comply with a recognizance.
