Four Red Deer Polytechnic student-athletes have been named to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) men”s and women’s soccer south All-Conference teams.

From the Kings:

-Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto
-Kaidri Bornyi
-Wataru Oguchi

From the Queens:

-Sofia Quinteros

“These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication that these student-athletes have demonstrated throughout the year to their teams, Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics, and our institution,” says Kristine Plastow, Red Deer Polytechnic Dean of Students.

“We are very proud of their accomplishments on and off the field. Our Kings and Queens Soccer coaches should also be commended, as these All-Conference selections reflect their vast expertise and commitment to the Red Deer Polytechnic Soccer program.”

The three men played a significant role in guiding the Kings to a 4-1-1 record this season, good enough for second in the division. The Kings outscored their opponents a combined 22-6, with the Brazilian third-year Neto netting seven.

Second-year Bornyi, an Edmonton native, scored one goal and started all six games. Oguchi, from Japan, was a stalwart on the back end in his first year.

The Kings play the Lakeland College Rustlers for ACAC bronze on Oct. 30.

Meantime, Quinteros was a dynamo herself, scoring four times and adding two assists in six games, en route to a 4-2-0 record with the Queens.

Quinteros’s contributions led to the Queens being the top offensive team in the league with 6.83 goals per game, and the second best defensive team, allowing just 1.67 goals per match.

The Queens host Concordia University for conference bronze on Oct. 30. Kick-off is at 1 p.m. Spectators are permitted, with admission by donation.
