A Red Deer man has been charged with impaired driving in Sylvan Lake.

Police say it was about 5 p.m. on Oct. 20 when members from Sylvan Lake detachment responded to multiple reports of a possible impaired driver within town.

Police were told the male driver was allegedly driving on sidewalks, and in the wrong lane. It was believed at the time that the suspect vehicle was also involved in a flight from police in Red Deer earlier that day.

The vehicle and driver were located just north of town on Hwy 20.

The 33-year-old man from Red Deer faces the following charges:

· Flight from police
· Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
· Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
· Resist police officer
· Impaired operation of a motor vehicle by drug
· Mischief over $5,000

Following a court appearance, the man was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial court on Nov. 2.

Sylvan Lake RCMP thank the public for their assistance in reporting the vehicle, noting that it was instrumental in the arrest.
