A Sylvan Lake man has been sentenced to over four and a half years in jail for his part in a central Alberta drug trafficking operation.

Dallas Anthony Griffin, 34, was handed a 56 month sentence in Red Deer provincial court last week, after being convicted of two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of careless use and storage of a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of property over $5000, and breach of conditions.

Griffin, however, was also given credit for 31 and a half months of pre-trial custody, leaving him with 24 and a half months still to serve.

He was also given a 10 years to lifetime firearms ban, in addition to being ordered to abstain from communicating directly or indirectly with his co-accused, Emily Herman, while in custody.

Herman meanwhile, is scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court Oct. 26.

The pair were among three people originally charged in the July 2019 drug trafficking bust by local Mounties.

That’s when RCMP revealed the results of a joint investigation where Red Deer RCMP and Sylvan Lake RCMP General Investigation Sections arrested three people and seized drugs, cash, weapons, and three hand grenades.

Between June 18 and June 26 of that year, police conducted an investigation into a drug trafficking operation in both Red Deer and Sylvan Lake. On June 27, 2019, a search warrant was executed at a Sylvan Lake residence.

As a result of the search, officers seized 416 grams of methamphetamine, 17 grams of fentanyl, 1.5 grams of cocaine, three hand grenades, body armour, seven firearms, ammunition, and $25,528 in cash.

A third individual, Lincoln Capel of Red Deer, was also arrested during the search on outstanding warrants and charged with possession of a controlled substance, and failing to comply with a recognizance.
