MR MIKES joins Mealshare program on World Food Day

Oct 22, 2021 | 2:38 PM

In partnership with Mealshare, MR MIKES recently celebrated World Food Day (Oct. 16) by launching the Mealshare program at its 45 locations across Canada.

That includes in Red Deer, where you can now ask your server upon ordering to, “Make it a Mealshare.”

When a customer does this, MR MIKES will add $1.00 to your bill which will go towards providing a healthy meal to a youth. MR MIKES has also made all of its featured menu items Mealshare items, meaning when one is ordered, a full meal will be provided to a youth who needs one.

In Red Deer, Mealshare is working with BGC Red Deer & District (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs).

“We are very excited to be part of the Mealshare family. As a brand who is committed to our community and to helping others, Mealshare is the perfect fit as a national partner and complements all of the community work done by our stores today,” says Taili Coates, Vice President, MR MIKES Marketing.

“They have local charity partners in each of our communities so the funds raised by a local store will go directly to their community and internationally through Save the Children Canada. This is community giving at its best.”

As for Mealshare, which was launched in 2013, they believe it’s unacceptable that one-in-five Canadian kids are not getting enough healthy food each day.

That’s approximately 1.2 million children, they point out, living in food-insecure households.

“Hunger is not just an issue in faraway places. It is happening right here in Canada and can make anyone experiencing it feel very vulnerable — especially children. Having well-known restaurant groups like MR MIKES and Leopold’s Tavern join our program allows us to have even more of an impact on kids in smaller communities across Canada.” says Derek Juno, Executive Vice President, Mealshare.

“We hope Canadians will head to our website and look for a Mealshare partner near them, so they can take action and turn their dining out, into helping out.”

Across Canada, more than 250+ restaurants in 450 communities are partnered with Mealshare. It has provided over 4.9 million meals to youth in need.
