Red Deer Polytechnic athletics recap

Both the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Soccer squads earned important victories over the weekend and advanced to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division finals.

College officials add, the Cross Country Running team had another superb performance as well at Running Room Grand Prix #3 in Calgary.

Queens Soccer | Friday, October 15 | RDP Main Field

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens defeated the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings 7-3 in the ACAC Women’s Soccer South Division quarter-finals.

Queens Soccer | Sunday, October 17 | Lethbridge College

The Queens picked up a huge 2-1 overtime road win over the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in the ACAC South Division semi-finals.

Jenica Swartz, a Bachelor of Science Pre-Professional – Medicine student, struck during regulation time. Sherwood Park’s Paige Kalbfleisch scored in the second overtime frame, sealing a 2-1 win for the Queens.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens will play the SAIT Trojans in the ACAC South Division finals on Saturday, October 23 on the road.

Kings Soccer | Sunday, October 17 | RDP Main Field

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings defeated the Lethbridge College Kodiaks 5-1 in the ACAC Men’s Soccer South Division semi-finals.

Brazil’s Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto scored a pair of goals for the Kings. Gabriel Fleury de Queiroz, Thomson Wellie, and Osvaldo Aguilar Hererra also found the back of the net for the Polytechnic.

The Kings will face the SAIT Trojans in the ACAC South Division finals on Saturday, October 23 in Calgary.

Cross Country Running | Grand Prix #3 | Saturday, October 16 | St. Mary’s University

The Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running team performed very well at Running Room Grand Prix #3.

The Kings finished second as a group, while the Queens sealed third. College officials note, this was the final race before the ACAC Championships on Saturday, October 30 in Camrose.
