Innisfail RCMP investigate fatal collision

A passenger involved in a serious two-vehicle collision in Innisfail this month has now passed away from their injuries.

On Oct. 2, at approximately 2 p.m., Innisfail RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision between an SUV and a truck at the intersection of 42 Avenue and Highway 54.

Emergency Medical Services and STARS air ambulance attended. The RCMP Collision Analyst also attended to assist with the investigation.

Mounties say their preliminary investigation has revealed the SUV was travelling southbound on 42 Avenue while the truck was travelling westbound on Highway 54. The SUV is believed to have stopped, entered into the intersection and then was subsequently struck by the truck.

The driver of the truck, a 58-year-old female, was assessed for minor injuries and released on scene.

The driver of the SUV, a 75-year-old female was transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries. The 82-year-old male passenger of the SUV was transported via STARS air ambulance to a local area hospital in critical condition.

On Oct. 14, police say the 82-year-old male passenger of the SUV died in hospital as a result of injuries sustained from the collision.

The collision remains under investigation. However, RCMP say no further updates will be provided and the name of the deceased will not be released.
