Red Deer rental rates still low, but on the rise

According to the latest National Rent Report, average rental costs in Red Deer last month ranked 34th out of 35 Canadian cities.

The report shows the average rent for a one-bedroom unit in Red Deer in September was $950 per month, up 3.9 per cent from August and 2.7 per cent from September 2020.

Two-bedroom units, meanwhile, rented for an average of $1,108 per month, up 5.8 per cent from August and 6.1 per cent from September of last year.

Elsewhere in Alberta, Calgary placed 28th on the list with an average rent of $1,262 per month for a one-bedroom unit and $1,555 for a two-bedroom unit.

Edmonton placed 31st on the list with an average rent of $1,021 per month for a one-bedroom unit and $1,245 per month for a two-bedroom.

Lethbridge placed 32nd on the list with an average rent of $984 per month for a one-bedroom accommodation, and $1,133 per month for two bedrooms.

Vancouver topped the list for having the most expensive average rents in Canada, with a one-bedroom unit renting out for an average of $2,155 per month, and $2,932 per month for a two-bedroom unit.

The average rent for all Canadian properties listed on Rentals.ca in September 2021 was $1,769 per month, identical to the September 2020 figure and up 0.3 per cent over August of this year.

Officials say the average rent has been slowly increasing month over month after hitting a multi-year low of $1,675 per month in April 2021.
