Pair arrested in Penhold after week-long RCMP investigation

Two men from central Alberta have been arrested following a week-long investigation in Penhold.

RCMP say it was on Sept. 24 when the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Team (SADCRT), along with Innisfail detachment, arrested two males for allegedly possessing stolen property exceeding $5,000, on outstanding warrants, and for possessing cocaine, fentanyl and crystal meth.

The SADCRT, working in Innisfail, had observed a pick-up truck hauling a flat-deck trailer. Checks on it determined the trailer was stolen from Sylvan Lake.

It was monitored as it pulled into a Penhold gas station, which is when RCMP entered and placed the driver under arrest.

The suspect them attempted to flee by running out of the store, however he was apprehended a short distance away. A second suspect — a passenger in the pick-up — was arrested without incident.

In the end, a Ford F350 stolen out of Penhold, the trailer — worth $20,000 –, hydraulic fittings, and a converted utility trailer containing unique tools worth $100,000 and stolen out of Innisfail, were recovered and returned to their owners.

Kirk Clark, 35, of Red Deer, was charged with:

· Possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000.00 (x2)

· Possession of stolen property under $5,000.00

· Failing to comply with release order (x2)

· Possessing a controlled substance (x2)

· Resisting a peace office

· Driving a motor vehicle while unauthorized and with no insurance

Clark also had three outstanding arrest warrants for a total of eight charges; six counts of failing to comply with release order, fail to stop for a peace officer and driving a vehicle while unauthorized.

Trevor Taylor, 42, of Lacombe, was charged with:

· Possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000.00 (x2)

· Possession of stolen property under $5,000.00

· Possessing a controlled substance (x2)

Both accused are scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Oct. 22. Clark has been remanded into custody and Taylor has been released from custody on a promise to pay.

Many of the stolen tools are still outstanding and RCMP are asking if anyone has information to please contact their nearest RCMP Detachment or local police.
