Calgary & Edmonton among six Canadian cities on “World’s Best Cities” ranking

Half a dozen Canadian communities are being considered as some of the world’s finest.

Resonance Consultancy, based in Vancouver, has released its list of the 2021 World’s Best Cities, using the following six categories to rank prominent places around the globe.

  • Place – city’s natural and built environment
  • Product – key institutions, attractions, and infrastructure
  • Programming – arts, culture, entertainment, and culinary scenes
  • People – rate of immigration and diversity
  • Prosperity – employment, corporate head offices, household income, and other factors
  • Promotion – quantity of stories, references, and recommendations shared online about the city

Among the top 100, six Canadian cities were ranked, two of which are in Alberta.

Toronto (18):

Highlighted rankings: product (18) and people (four).

The city ranked highly on diversity, education, openness, and head offices.

Vancouver (46):

Highlighted rankings: programming (66), people (six).

The city ranked highly on educational attainment, foreign-born population, and economic investments.

Montreal (48):

Highlighted rankings: programming (42), people (32)

The city ranked highly in culture, education, and economic equality.

Calgary (49):

Highlighted rankings: people (13), prosperity (31)

The city ranked highly in GDP per capita, educational attainment, and foreign-born population.

Ottawa (84):

Highlighted rankings: people (21), prosperity (88)

The city ranked highly in foreign-born population, educational attainment, GDP per capita, and attractions.

Edmonton (86):

Highlighted rankings: people (30), prosperity (51)

The city ranked highly in educational attainment, culture, and GDP per capita.
