Youth taking part in rec programs with adults will need proof of vaccine or negative test

Oct 8, 2021 | 9:30 AM

There are changes to how youth will be considered under the province’s Restrictions Exemption Program.

Effective Tuesday, Oct. 12, The City of Red Deer will begin screening all youth aged 12-17 when participating in combined adult/youth activities. The province announced this direction on Oct. 6.

This means that 12-17-year-olds in those activities will need to produce proof of vaccination, medical exemption, or a negative COVID-19 test.

This change will impact sport rental groups and most drop-in programs such as drop-in skating, swimming and fieldhouse use, as well as many fitness programs.

The City will be adding a number of youth-only options to its programming over the coming days, which will be listed at reddeer.ca/recupdate. Those programs will not require youth to provide any of the aforementioned items.

More information about the Restriction Exemption Program, including acceptable proof of vaccination, medical exemption or negative test result, is available here: https://www.alberta.ca/covid-19-public-health-actions.aspx. Further detail is also available here: Requirements for the Restriction Exemption Program.
