Central Alberta shooting suspect arrested

One of two men charged in connection with a shooting in Maskwacis over the summer is now in police custody.

On Oct. 4, Maskwacis RCMP with the assistance of Wetaskiwin RCMP arrested 20-year-old Shayden Trey Rain on his outstanding warrants. Rain was held for a judicial interim release hearing and remanded into custody.

Maskwacis RCMP thank the public for their assistance.

Rain is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin provincial court Oct. 12, along with his co-accused, 20-year-old Jerry Lawrence James Johnson.

On Aug. 20, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Maskwacis RCMP responded to a shooting in the Townsite area of the Ermineskin Cree Nation. Early reports indicated that multiple shots were fired and a vehicle fled the scene.

Police responded to the area and located two females with serious life threatening injuries. Both were transported to hospital for medical treatment.

Police identified two suspects involved in the shooting.

Jerry Johnson, of Maskwacis, is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and fail to comply with a release order. He was held for a judicial interim release hearing and released on multiple conditions.

Shayden Rain, of Maskwacis, is charged with two counts of attempted murder with a firearm, two counts of discharge firearm with intent, two counts of pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and using a firearm in the commission of an offence.
