Red Deer with 784 active cases of COVID-19

There are 784 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer as of Friday, down two from the day before.

The city hit a new peak of 915 on Sept. 27, topping its previous high of 911 on May 8 at the height of the third wave.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose by 74 to 7,164 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to the city since the start of the pandemic rose by 75 in the last day to 8,012.

Red Deer’s rate of active cases per 100,000 people is 736.9, compared to the city of Calgary at 250.4 and the city of Edmonton at 290.9.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now at 64, up three over the past day.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 6,085,230 vaccine doses as of Sept. 30, up 17,668 in the last day.

83.8 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (71.3% total population), and 74.5 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (63.4% total population).

In Red Deer, 69,435 (75.7% of eligible & 65.2% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 192. Meanwhile, 61,228 (66.7%/57.5%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 127. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)

The Central Zone as a whole has 3,995 active cases as of Friday, up by 53 from Thursday.

There are 186 hospitalizations, up five, and 18 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one from Thursday.

Central Zone has recorded 273 deaths, including five over the past day.

Elsewhere, the Edmonton zone has 5,080 active cases of COVID-19, while there are 4,834 active cases in the Calgary zone, 4,015 in the North zone, 2,273 in the South zone and 18 additional active cases in unconfirmed locations.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

The active caseload is now 20,215, down 40 from Thursday. This while the province added 1,630 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

With 15,857 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 10.2 per cent.

There are 1,066 people currently in hospital with COVID-19, down 17 from Thursday, with 263 of those patients in ICU, the same as the day before.

There have been 14 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the province’s death toll from the virus now to 2,731.
