A man charged in the fatal shooting of a young Ponoka man in Lacombe nearly two years ago, has had his application to withdraw his previous guilty plea denied.

Tyler John Campbell, 28, appeared in Red Deer provincial court on Friday but had his application to withdraw his previous guilty plea to manslaughter with a firearm in the death of 20-year-old Jeffery Kraft , denied by Justice C.K.W. Thietke.

Campbell made the application after Judge Jim Hunter twice rejected a joint sentencing submission from the Crown and defence of a seven year prison sentence.

Kraft, meanwhile, passed away on Dec. 15, 2019 following injuries sustained from a gunshot wound in what has been described in court as an ‘accidental’ shooting over an alleged debt.
