Red Deer with 14 COVID-linked deaths this month, AB up to 2,622 total

Red Deer now sits at 785 active cases of COVID-19, up 23 from Thursday, and up from 105 from a week ago. The increase comes after three straight days of declines.

That’s the highest active caseload in the city since May 16. The city peaked at 911 active cases on May 8.

Meantime, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up 70 to 7,557 over the last day, while recoveries are up 45 to 6,715.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now 57, with two reported today. In the last week, Red Deer has added seven deaths, with 14 this month.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 107 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+4 over the previous week), with seven active (-1) and zero deaths.

The Central Zone as a whole has 3,716 active cases as of Friday, up 125 from Thursday. There are 189 hospitalizations, the same as yesterday, with 25 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up three. The Central Zone has had 239 deaths linked to COVID-19, with five reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Sept. 23 is 15.8 per cent with 2,589 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 1,651 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 16,848 tests. That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 10.11 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down 140 to 20,040. A week ago, active cases totalled 19,201.

There are 1,061 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, up three, including 243 in intensive care, up 17.

Of the 818 not in ICU, 568 are unvaccinated, 49 have one dose, and 201 have two doses.

Of the 243 in ICU, 210 are unvaccinated, 11 have one dose, and 22 have two doses.

The province’s death toll is now listed as 2,622, which means 11 more deaths have been reported since yesterday. A week ago, the provincial death toll was 2,523, a difference of 99.

VACCINATIONS

Across the province, 82.3 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (70.0% total population), and 73.4 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (62.4% total population).

In Red Deer, 67,959 (74.1% of eligible & 63.9% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 293 in the last day, and 2,523 in the last week.

Meanwhile, 60,240 (65.7%/56.6%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 174 in one day, and 1,349 over the last seven days. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
