GoFundMe set up for Blackfalds man battling brain cancer

Family and friends of a Blackfalds family are asking for community support after the father was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma tumor, said to be the most aggressive form of brain cancer.

The Millar family, made up of Dave and Julie, along with their 17-year-old son Cole and 15-year-old son Ethan, were living a normal family life until a few weeks ago.

Dave was at work when he suddenly lost the use of his left hand. He phoned his wife who raced him to the emergency room thinking he was having a stroke. That’s when they found the mass on his brain.

Since then he has already undergone brain surgery to decrease the size of the tumor and immediately started chemotherapy and radiation.

Unfortunately, his prognosis is terminal, as doctors have given him eight months to live. If he responds well to treatment, they are hoping they can extend his life to a year.

Millar has recovered from the surgery and remains in positive spirits, according to family friends, but the impact this is having on his family is described devastating. A GoFundMe account has been started in their name to help the family through this difficult time and take care of additional medical expenses.

Over $5,000 has been raised within the first 24 hours, with the goal being $10,000.
