Active COVID cases drop locally and provincially, AB adds 20 more deaths

Red Deer now has 767 active cases of COVID-19, down 34 from Tuesday.

Red Deer has been bounding upward towards its peak of 911 active cases which it hit on May 8 at the height of the third wave. Alberta’s overall active caseload also dropped today by more than 600.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose 67 to 6,608 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 33 in the last day to 7,429.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 54, with three deaths added to the city’s total yesterday.

The Central Zone as a whole has 3,515 active cases as of Wednesday, down 151 in the last day.

There are 184 hospitalizations, up 13, and 23 people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, net up four.

Central Zone has recorded 231 deaths, including four in the last day.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Sept. 21 is 11.06 per cent, with 1,456 tests done.

To contrast, Calgary Zone’s positivity rate for Sept. 21 was 6.45 per cent, Edmonton Zone was 8.66, North Zone was 24.93 per cent (lowest immunization rate), and South Zone was 14.13.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

The active caseload is now 20,304, down 613. This with the province adding 1,336 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The province also did 14,521 more tests in the last day.

There are 1,040 people in hospital, up 44 in one day, and ICU admissions are up eight to 230.

Of the 810 not in ICU, 558 are unvaccinated, 47 have had one dose, and 205 have two doses.

Of the 230 in ICU, 203 are unvaccinated, six have had one dose, and 21 have had two doses.

Sadly, 20 new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day, meaning the provincial death toll is now 2,594. That’s up 99 from seven days ago.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 5,875,001 vaccine doses as of Sept. 21, up 21,944 in the last day.

81.8 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (69.5% total population), and 73.0 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (62.1% total population).

In Red Deer, 67,353 (73.5% of eligible & 63.3% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 279. Meanwhile, 59,879 (65.3%/56.3%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 164. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
