Classes cancelled through Sunday at Red Deer Polytechnic

Sep 16, 2021 | 11:50 AM

All in-person classes, labs, shops and seminars at Red Deer Polytechnic are cancelled for Sept 16-19.

RDP made the announcement Thursday morning in response to Wednesday evening’s announcements by the Government of Alberta. Several other Alberta institutions have announced the same thing as leadership makes decisions on how best to move forward.

Per RDP, the following actions are being taken:

ACADEMIC DELIVERY

  • Online and blended class delivery will continue as outlined in the Fall 2021 Timetable
  • All in-person classes, labs, shops and seminars will be cancelled for today (Thursday, September 16) through Sunday, September 19. However, instructors will adjust delivery to online, wherever possible, to help provide learning continuity for students. Instructors will communicate class-specific information to students, to help inform them of plans

SERVICE DELIVERY

  • Services will continue to be offered through a blend of in-person and online delivery

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

• The many current COVID-19 protocols that are in place at Red Deer Polytechnic will remain in place, with the health and safety of our employees, students and visitors as paramount.

• Current protocols include individuals requiring face coverings within all indoor spaces at the institution’s campuses, physical distancing of two-metres, use of a daily SAFE RDC COVID-19 check-in app, illness reporting, good hygiene and more.

Additional information will be provided on Friday afternoon about course delivery for Monday, September 20 and the rest of next week, RDP says.

Students can stay connected to Red Deer Polytechnic’s website (rdc.ab.ca/covid) and social media platforms for details. Students will also be informed through their personal announcements on TheLoop.

NDP Advanced Education Critic David Eggen released the following statement regarding the cancellation of in-person classes at post-secondary institutions across Alberta:

“The UCP government’s failure to act until the last minute will disrupt the lives of thousands of students across the province that were expecting to head back to class this week, in some cases informing students in the middle of the night that there are no classes today.

“The UCP has failed to lead throughout this pandemic, and during this fourth wave, they’ve abdicated all responsibility for student safety to post-secondary institutions. These institutions stepped up and implemented measures to keep students safe, and now they are scrambling to adapt to yet another failure of leadership from the province.
