Red Deer sees decline in COVID-19 case counts

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer has fallen by 24.

It’s the first time the city has seen a drop in its active case count since July 23, when active case numbers edged lower from 10 to nine. Until Tuesday, active cases had steadily increased in the community since then.

The drop in case numbers brings the total number of active cases in Red Deer now to 573, while recoveries have increased by 41 to 6,275.

The total number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic is 6,893. One new death attributed to the virus, however, has also been reported in Red Deer, bringing the city’s COVID-19 death toll to 45.

The entire Central Zone has 2,699 active cases as of Tuesday, down 52 from Monday. There are 134 hospitalizations, up four, and 21 people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two.

The zone has had 195 deaths linked to the virus, with two more reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Over the past day, Alberta Health has confirmed 1,434 new cases.

There are now 18,265 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, down 130 from Monday.

Of the currently active cases, 12,678 are identified as variants of concern.

With 11,880 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 12.1 per cent.

Provincially, 822 Albertans are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, up 19 from Monday, while 212 of those patients are in ICU, up 14 from Monday.

There have been nine additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 2,471.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 5,665,956 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Sept. 13.

Of the 12+ population, 79.4 per cent has received at least one dose (67.5% total population), while 71.3 per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (60.6% total population).

In Red Deer, 64,625 (70.4% eligible/60.7% total) people have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine. Meanwhile, 58,478 residents (63.7%/54.9%) are fully vaccinated.
