Red Deer hits 70% first dose as cases, deaths continue surging

Red Deer has 597 active cases of COVID-19, up 102 from Friday’s update.

Recoveries are listed at 6,234, up 84, as Red Deer added 186 new COVID cases over the last three days for a total of 6,875.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 44, with the last one reported Sept. 1.

The entire Central Zone has 2,751 active cases as of Monday, up 438 from Friday. There are 130 hospitalizations, up 29, and 19 people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two.

The zone has had 193 deaths linked to the virus, with two reported today.

The zone’s seven-day testing positivity rate is currently 17.92 per cent, with a one-day weekend high of 20.11 per cent on Sept. 12, and 4,664 tests done over the three days.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Over the past three days, Alberta Health confirmed a combined 4,740 new cases, with 1,659 on Friday, 1,497 on Saturday, and 1,584 on Sunday.

Last Monday, the province announced 4,903 cases over the four-day Sept 3-6 long weekend.

There are now 18,395 active cases, up 2,130 from Friday’s total of 16,265. That’s also up from last Tuesday’s total of 15,486.

Of the currently active cases, 12,102 are confirmed as variants of concern.

An average of 13,362 tests were conducted each day over the past three days. The seven-day positivity rate is currently 11.76 per cent.

Provincially, 803 patients are currently hospitalized with COVID, up 117 over the weekend, including 198 who have been admitted to intensive care, up 29. Last Tuesday, there were 602 in hospital and 137 in ICU.

Of the 605 people hospitalized but not in ICU, 401 are completely unvaccinated, 42 have received one dose, and 155 have two doses.

Of the 198 in ICU, 172 are completely unvaccinated, seven have one dose, and 19 have two doses.

Since Friday’s update, there has sadly been 18 new deaths added to the provincial COVID-19 death toll, which stands at 2,462.

Among the deaths is a woman in her 30s, with no known pre-existing conditions.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 5,656,213 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Sept. 12. That’s up 22,067 over the weekend, or an average of 7,355 daily.

Of the 12+ population, 79.2 per cent has received at least one dose (67.4% total population), while 71.2 per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (60.5% total population).

In Red Deer, 64,465 (70.3% eligible/60.6% total) people have received at least one dose, up 377 over the last three days. Meanwhile, 58,353 residents (63.7%/54.8%) are fully vaccinated, up 272.
