The Erskine School community has experienced over 10 per cent of students and staff being away due to illness.

At this time, at least three individuals have reported to the school they have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Clearview Public Schools officials.

Due to the situation where greater than 10 per cent of absenteeism due to respiratory illness having been confirmed at the school, officials say the Medical Officer of Health has requested Alberta Health Services (AHS) Public Health staff to initiate an investigation.

Following the protocols from Alberta Health Services, Clearview staff will not be identifying or contacting close contacts.

“Erskine School continues to remain open and they are working closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff,” reads a release from district staff on Thursday.

“Their current safety protocols include: enhanced cleaning and disinfecting, daytime custodial staff, and hand washing and sanitizing.”

District officials remind all families to continue to closely monitor their children for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. The Alberta Health daily checklist can be found here.

Officials further ask families to remember to complete the checklist each day, whether children are attending school and/or getting on the school bus or not.

“As a reminder, if you/your child has any of the symptoms of illness listed on the Alberta Health daily checklist, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811 and stay home/keep your child at home.”

Officials note they will be sending updates to families as information becomes available, and they want to thank families for following the protocols and keeping students home when sick.
