Red Deer building permit values down year-over-year through August

This August, the City of Red Deer issued 79 building permits, compared to 88 in August 2020.

However, the estimated value this year was $4.655 million, compared to $3.008 million a year ago.

Conversely, there have been 773 permits issued year to date, with an estimated value of $83.118 million.

From Jan. to Aug. 2020, there were fewer permits (571) with a higher estimated value ($105.347 million).

Notable permits issued in Aug. 2021 included:

  • Building permit for new commercial construction, single storey commercial retail building at Suite 90 – 4110 Thorburn Avenue, valued at $692,640
  • Building permit for tenant improvements for modification of room to meet new equipment requirements at 4312 54 Avenue, valued at $449,500
  • Building Permit for tenant improvements for a new Restaurant at Suite 5 – 69 Dunlop Street, valued at $350,000
  • Building permit for detached dwelling with attached garage with two rear decks and finished basement at 218 Thompson Crescent, valued at $255,295
  • Building permit for a detached dwelling with front attached garage and rear covered deck at 149 Emerald Drive, valued at $220,602

In August, 21 of the 79 permits were residential, with a value of $1.926 million, and 21 were commercial, with a value of $1.921 million.

Five were public service permits, valued at $808,000.
