Province adds 10 more COVID deaths, 54 in last week

Red Deer now sits at 495 active cases of COVID-19, up just three from Thursday, and up from 393 a week ago.

The city’s total number of recorded cases is up 40 to 6,689, while recoveries are up 37 to 6,150.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 44, with the last one reported Sept. 1.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 95 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+6 over the previous week), with 17 active (+4) and zero deaths.

The Central Zone as a whole has 2,313 active cases as of Friday, up 101 from Thursday. There are 101 hospitalizations, down one, with 17 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The Central Zone has had 191 deaths linked to COVID-19, with one reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Sept. 9 is 18.41 per cent with 1,282 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 1,473 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 13,625 tests. That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 11.65 per cent.

Of today’s new cases, 1,076 (71.8%) are unvaccinated, while 111 are partially vaccinated and 311 are fully.

Active cases across the province are up 288 to 16,265. A week ago, active cases totalled 13,495.

Of the active cases, 12,117 are variants of concern. (Variant case numbers are not updated daily like most other data)

There are 686 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, up seven, including 169 in intensive care, up 15.

Of the 517 not in ICU, 339 are unvaccinated, 42 have one dose, and 136 have two doses.

The province’s death toll is now listed as 2,444, which is up one from yesterday, up 37 over the last three days, and up 54 over the last week.

VACCINATIONS

On the vaccine front, Alberta has now administered 5,634,146 doses, up 8,090 in the last day, and up 50,304 over the last week (7,186 daily average).

Across the province, 78.9 per cent (+0.1) of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (67.2% total population), and 70.9 per cent (+0.1) of those eligible are fully vaccinated (60.3% total population).

In Red Deer, 64,088 (69.9% of eligible & 60.2% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 109 in the last day. Meanwhile, 58,081 (63.4%/54.6%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 113. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
