Red Deer with 393 active cases of COVID-19

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count has risen by 22, bringing the total number of active cases in the city now to 393.

Recoveries rose by 19 on Friday to 5,976. The number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic is now 6,413.

Total deaths in Red Deer attributed to the virus remains at 44, with the last one reported Sept. 1.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,712 active cases as of Friday, up 133 from Thursday. There are 72 hospitalizations, up six from Thursday, with 13 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two from Thursday.

To this point, 183 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 in the Central Zone, with none reported on Friday.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 1,401 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases across the province to 13,495 – up 627 from Thursday.

With 12,551 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 11.1 per cent.

Of the active cases, 10,574 are variants of concern, or 78.3 per cent of all active cases.

There are 515 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 28 from Thursday, with 118 of those patients in ICU, up four from Thursday.

There have been two additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 2,390.

There are currently 3,998 active cases of COVID-19 in the Edmonton zone, 3,803 in the Calgary zone, 2,563 in the North zone, 1,398 in the South zone, and 21 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has now administered 5,583,842 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Sept. 2.

As a result, 78.3 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ now have at least one dose (66.6% total population), while 70.2 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ are now fully vaccinated (59.7% total population).

As of Sept. 1, 69.1 per cent of eligible Red Deerians have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, which represents 59.5 per cent of the city’s total population.

62.5 per cent of eligible Red Deerians are now fully vaccinated with two doses, which represents 53.9 per cent of the city’s total population.
