Cilantro and Chive Burger of the Month “Gives a Mile” to those who need it

Cilantro and Chive is celebrating their latest Burger of the Month (BOTM) success story from their Red Deer location.

The “Give a Mile” August BOTM was co-created by local guest chef Becca Swanson, with $2 sold from every burger going to Swanson’s charity of choice, the Give a Mile Foundation which provides flights of compassion to those in need of visiting a loved one who is critically ill or dealing with palliative illness.

Swanson said Give a Mile is an easy foundation to get behind, because they also accept things like Air Miles and credit card points.

“If you’re like me, you have miles scattered across multiple platforms and some programs will never amount to anything, so why not donate those miles to a great cause? With so many people being affected financially by COVID-19, Give A Mile is a great way to give back if you don’t have room in your budget right now. A new BBQ is thousands and thousands of points (and it’s never the model you really want). One last hug, one last conversation, one last goodbye. That’s priceless”.

Thanks to the support from the Red Deer community, Swanson was able to raise $1416 for the Give a Mile foundation on Wednesday, Sept 1. In the past 55 months, Cilantro and Chive’s BOTM program has given back over $85,000 to local charities.

The September Burger of the Month in Red Deer is the “Rebel Moon” created in collaboration with local Guest Chef Cam Moon. It’s a toasted bolillos bun with spicy ground chorizo sausage, buttermilk marinated ancho chili fried chicken breast, butter leaf lettuce, melted cayenne and peppercorn gouda, topped with fresh guacamole.

$2 from every “Rebel Moon” will go directly towards Cam’s charity of choice – Special Olympics Alberta.
