Red Deer with 371 active COVID-19 cases

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer saw only a slight increase on Thursday.

Three new active cases were added to the city’s total, bringing the total number to 371. Recoveries meanwhile, increased by 31, bringing that total to 5,957.

The number of coronavirus cases identified in Red Deer since the start of the pandemic is 6,372 – up 34 from Wednesday.

Total deaths in Red Deer related to COVID-19 remains at 44, with the last one reported Sept. 1.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,579 active cases as of Thursday, up 76 from Wednesday. There are 66 hospitalizations, up two from Wednesday, with 11 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as Wednesday.

To this point, 183 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 in the Central Zone, with none reported on Thursday.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 1,339 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Thursday, bringing the total number of active cases across the province to 12,868 – up 578 from Wednesday.

With 12,416 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 10.8 per cent.

Of the active cases, 10,449 are variants of concern, or 81.2 per cent of all active cases.

There are 487 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 22 from Wednesday, with 114 of those patients in ICU, up seven from Wednesday.

There have been five additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 2,388.

There are currently 3,947 active cases of COVID-19 in the Edmonton zone, 3,593 in the Calgary zone, 2,374 in the North zone, 1,351 in the South zone, and 24 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has now administered 5,574,762 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Sept. 1.

As a result, 78.2 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ now have at least one dose (66.5% total population), while 70.0 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ are now fully vaccinated (59.6% total population).

As of Sept. 1, 69.0 per cent of eligible Red Deerians have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, which represents 59.5 per cent of the city’s total population.

62.4 per cent of eligible Red Deerians are now fully vaccinated with two doses, which represents 53.8 per cent of the city’s total population.
