The Town of Ponoka is excited to announce its large and small indoor ice surfaces at the Ponoka Arena Complex will be ready for bookings starting Sept. 5.

The free public skating schedule will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 7 with extended hours from 4-9 p.m. on the small ice surface from Sept. 7-10.

Following those dates, the regular free public skating schedule will be as follows:

  • Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1p.m. on the large and small ice.
  • Saturday and Sunday from 1-2:30 p.m. on the small ice.

Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities for the Town of Ponoka, Andrew Jones, says construction of their new ice plant at the arena has gone very well, and they are excited to reopen to the public.

“Ice making is currently underway and we’ve been working closely with our Arena user groups as we prepare for the reopening of the facility.” He went on to say the new ice plant will provide increased efficiency which will allow the arena to expand its regular ice season, with the potential to offer summer training camps in the future.

Addition annual maintenance improvements and repairs also continued while the ice plant was being installed, including:

  • Plexiglass replacement around the ice surfaces
  • Painting beams above the ice
  • Board repairs
  • Board advertising touch-ups and replacements
  • Concrete slab repairs

To book ice time at the arena, you can call 1-403-783-0131, or visit the Town of Ponoka’s website.
