Charges have now been laid in a fatal crash in Mountain View County this summer that claimed the life an Airdrie man.

Didsbury RCMP say Ashley Evans, 25, of Mountain View County, has been charged with impaired driving causing death, failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, failure to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop after an accident, impaired driving, and operate a motor vehicle over the legal limit.

After a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Evans was released on conditions and is next scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on Sept. 20. As these matters are now before the courts, Mounties say no further updates or details surrounding the incident will be provided.

On June 27, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Didsbury RCMP received a 911 call of a serious multi-vehicle collision on Highway 22 near Range Road 43 in Mountain View County.

Didsbury RCMP attended, Emergency Medical Services and Fire Services were already on scene, according to police. 43-year-old Matthew Forseth, of Airdrie, was identified as a male motorcyclist involved in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Another motorcyclist, an adult female operating a second motorcycle, suffered non-life threatening injuries that were treated in hospital.

RCMP say the occupants of an SUV, an adult female driver suffered minor injuries that were treated on scene, and the passenger was uninjured.

The 25-year-old female driver and lone occupant of a pick-up truck, from Mountain View County, involved in the collision, was located and arrested by police for impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death. However, due to her injuries, she was taken to hospital for treatment.

Didsbury RCMP’s preliminary investigation indicate a pick-up truck was heading southbound on Highway 22 and attempted to overtake a van and lost control, striking an SUV travelling northbound. The pick-up truck then rolled several times into the oncoming northbound lane of traffic, colliding with two motorcycles that were traveling northbound.
