City of Red Deer partners with online health directory to make getting help easier

Aug 31, 2021 | 1:38 PM

The City of Red Deer has teamed up with a free, location-based, online directory aiming to help citizens find the most relevant services to fit their needs.

HelpSeeker will allow you to privately browse over 2,700 local agencies listed for mental health, counselling, parenting, education and training, addictions, domestic violence, affordable housing, food support and much more.

Jeremy Bouw with Safe & Healthy Communities for the City of Red Deer, says we are fortunate to have a wide variety of support services in our city.

“The issue is often connecting the individual to the service they need in a quick and efficient manner.”

Alberta based HelpSeeker, lists thousands of verified community, provincial and federal services, resources, helplines and benefits all in one place, with the goal being to improve access to health and well-being services for Red Deerians.

Mapping Vice President at HelpSeeker, Nicole Croft, says their system mapping team did extensive research into the listed programs in Red Deer and surrounding areas, including ones that are not as easy to find.

“There are food and clothing banks, online counsellors and helplines, financial benefits, and more, which can be filtered to meet users’ specific needs such as age, location, or cost.”

Local organizations can also claim their listing, which allows them to verify and add information. These organizations can visit helpseeker.org/provider for more information.

Residents can discover the local options available to receive help or get help for your loved ones. You can download the app available at Apple and Google Play app stores, or by visiting the desktop version (no software or download required) at HelpSeeker.org.
