Hundreds of central Albertans gathered at St. Mary’s Church in Red Deer this week to celebrate the life of a much-loved, long-time dance instructor, stylist, esthetician and prominent member of the community.

A Celebration of Life was held for Miss Jody-Lynne Liptak, 54, on Aug. 24, with hundreds of community members in attendance at both the memorial service and reception held at the Cambridge Red Deer Hotel. Community members were also able to watch the service online.

‘Miss Jody’, as she was fondly referred to, passed away peacefully on Aug. 13 after a courageous battle with cancer.

According to her family, she was surrounded by loved ones, both friends and family during her final days, having only just entered hospice the day before.

There is no doubt Lipatk impacted many in her career, as both a stylist and esthetician with Chatters, and as a dance instructor with Dance Magic.

As a stylist and esthetician, Liptak was described as always welcoming, enthusiastic, and creative. She loved to make everyone look and feel beautiful; while putting them at ease and making them feel comfortable.

‘Miss Jody’, also touched many lives as a dance instructor at Dance Magic Studio (DMS); where she was described as a beautiful, kind woman with a huge heart, who positively impacted and inspired her Dance Magic students. She is also remembered as being passionate, dedicated, hardworking and encouraging.

“The outpouring of love from our dance community continues to shine, even through our darkest day,” reads a statement, in part, from the team at Dance Magic. “Over the past several days, we have been so fortunate to connect with so many families who loved Miss Jody. We have shared stories and memories, favourite dance songs and costumes, some jokes and shed some tears too.”

“We are committed to honoring Miss Jody’s incredible spirit and the relationships she has built after touching thousands of lives and training hundreds of dancers during her 25 years as a cherished member of our DMS family.

As we take a moment to pause in our grief, may we also take the time to be with each other and our thoughts and to ensure we can offer her, and all those who loved her, the most impactful and healing opportunity possible. There are no words to describe the impact she has had on our lives.”

“The way she challenged us and changed us all at the same time. The way she loved what she did and did what she loved. She lived a graceful and meaningful life that meant so much to so many.”

“Perhaps there are no words because there doesn’t have to be. We can find comfort in knowing Miss Jody was sent to us for a short season and for a big reason. Her life will be cherished and missed more than words can say,” the statement concludes.

Liptak’s brother Kyle, acknowledges that during Jody’s battle with cancer, she was always supported by a group of amazing women who we affectionately called ‘Jody’s Little Army’.

“To those women, my family and I will never be able to fully express our gratitude,” wrote Kyle Liptak, in a Facebook post. “Jody will be missed by many, including the thousands of dance students and dance parents that she has impacted through the years. The angels just got one incredible dance instructor. You will be missed. We love you.”

On Aug. 10, the team at Dance Magic announced a new scholarship for dancers in Miss Jody’s name.

Recipients will receive one year full tuition (September-June), costume, dance-related gift card, and more.
