Active COVID-19 cases reach 252 in Red Deer

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer has risen by 15, bringing the total number of active cases in the city to 252.

Recoveries, meanwhile, have increased by seven to 5,858.

Total cases identified in Red Deer since the start of the pandemic is now 6,153 – up 22 from Thursday.

The number of deaths in Red Deer attributed to the virus remains at 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,025 active cases as of Friday, up 58 from Thursday. There are 37 hospitalizations, up seven from Thursday, with seven people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two from Thursday.

The Central Zone has had 180 deaths linked to COVID-19 to this point.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 1,168 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases across the province now to 9,655 – up 589 from Thursday.

With 11,565 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 10.1 per cent.

Of the active cases, 7,359 are variants of concern, or 76.2 per cent of all active cases.

There are 336 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 28 from Thursday, with 74 of those patients in ICU, up 10 from Thursday.

According to Dr. Deena Hinshaw, of the 262 non-ICU patients, 77.1 per cent are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Of the 74 patients in ICU, 97.3 per cent are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

There have been 5 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ current death toll in our province to 2,364.

There are currently 3,026 active cases of COVID-19 in the Edmonton zone, 2,838 in the Calgary zone, 1,666 in the North zone, 1,074 in the South zone, and 26 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has now administered 5,528,420 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Aug. 26.

As a result, 77.7 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ now have at least one dose (66.1% total population), while 69.3 per cent of Albertans aged 12+ are now fully vaccinated (59.0% total population).

As of Aug. 27, 68.5 per cent of eligible Red Deerians have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, which represents 59.0 per cent of the city’s total population.

61.7 per cent of eligible Red Deerians are now fully vaccinated with two doses, which represents 53.2 per cent of the city’s total population.
