Elevated levels of fecal bacteria

Water quality advisory issued for Ebeling Beach

Aug 20, 2021 | 6:07 PM

Alberta Health Services is advising the public not to swim or wade in Gull Lake at the Ebeling Beach area at Aspen Beach Provincial Park due to elevated levels of fecal bacteria currently present in the water.

The elevated levels of fecal bacteria were found in this location after testing was done. At these levels, gastrointestinal illness may occur from contact with the water. There is also the possibility of skin, ear and eye infections.

If you do decide to access the water at Ebeling Beach, please take extra precautions to protect yourself, such as avoiding water contact with your face or mouth, and ensure hands are washed after being in the water. Hand washing can also help to prevent skin, ear and eye infections.

Never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any river, lake or reservoir at any time. These type of water-borne organisms can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
