Report: Trudeau could call election this weekend

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is planning to send Canadians to the polls September 20, according to reports Thursday morning by the CBC, Reuters and La Presse.

The reports suggest Trudeau will make the announcement Sunday upon meeting with Governor General Mary Simon, whom he will ask to dissolve parliament.

An election call has been rumoured for months on suggestions the governing Liberals are anxious to increase their share of seats in the House of Commons.

The Liberals are currently governing with a minority government.
