Friends of Sylvan Lake Library regroup to host book sale

On August 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and August 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friends of Sylvan Lake Library are hosting a book sale at Sylvan Lake Municipal Library. Used books will be available for purchase by donation.

According to Wendy Thurston, Friends of Sylvan Lake Library President, the group usually holds two or three book sales each year and a Christmas raffle. However, activities have been on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During COVID, the group was prevented from meeting, holding sales, or conducting the raffle,” said Thurston.

Thurston said Friends of Sylvan Lake Library resumed meeting in early June, but the outdoor location was not ideal. The group now meets at the library, as it has re-opened, and they are actively recruiting new members.

Proceeds from the book sale will assist the library. In the past, the group has purchased shelving in the children’s area, audiobooks, armchairs and rocking chairs, a defibrillator, audio-visual equipment, non-fiction books, and more.
