Cosmos offering personal development program for those facing barriers

Aug 11, 2021 | 10:51 AM

After a historic 19 months running the gauntlet of challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has presented, many central Alberta individuals are experiencing stress, poverty, job loss, and other mental health barriers.

In an effort to alleviate this stress, Cosmos Community Support Services is offering a new Personal Development program. This interactive and applied program can be offered in a small group setting or one-on-one, and provides attendees with workshops and knowledge surrounding seven key development areas: Goals, Study Skills, Body, Mind, Connection, Money, and Work.

Funded by the Lifelong Learning Council of Red Deer, the Personal Development program is open to individuals who self-identify as facing barriers. These self-identified barriers can be anything preventing an individual from achieving ones goals and can include factors such as poverty, homelessness, mental health, and others.

Nathan Werner, program facilitator, says of the program: “It is my hope that this program can be a means to help people experiencing barriers to define, for themselves, what success looks like.”

Individuals interested in attending a Cosmos Personal Development session are encouraged to contact Nathan at 403-343-0715, extension 267.

Initially established in 1972 as Cosmos Enterprises, the group’s current-day mission is to provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and/or individuals who may face other barriers or challenges.

The Cosmos Group values community inclusion, equality, dignity, and respect for all people.
