54,000+ Red Deerians, 59% of eligible, now fully vaccinated, with province at 66.4%

Red Deer now sits at 47 active cases of COVID-19, up one since Thursday.

The city’s total number of recorded cases is up two to 5,843, while recoveries are up one to 5,753.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6. Red Deer is now without a COVID-related death in a one-month span for the first time since the city’s first death on Dec. 18.

The Central Zone as a whole has 160 active cases as of Friday, up three from Thursday. There are 12 hospitalizations, up four, with one person receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The Central Zone has had 171 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today, though the zone’s total is down one due to a data correction.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate is 2.79 per cent with 430 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 369 cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 7,294 tests. That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 3.99 per cent.

Active cases across the province are up 193 to 2,719.

Of those, 1,956 are variants of concern, the same as yesterday. (Variant case numbers are not updated daily like most other data)

There are 113 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, up 11, including 25 in intensive care, up one.

Approximately 78 per cent of those in hospital, but not in ICU, are unvaccinated. Of the 25 in ICU, 21 are unvaccinated. Out of the 113 total patients in hospital, 90 are unvaccinated.

The province’s death toll is now listed as 2,325, which is down four from yesterday. This means previous deaths have been corrected and are no longer considered linked to COVID-19.

VACCINATIONS

On the vaccine front, Alberta has now administered 5,365,607 doses, up 10,353 in the last day

76.2 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (64.8% total population), and 66.4 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (56.5% total population).

In Red Deer, 61,510 (67.1% of eligible & 57.8% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 70 in the last day. Meanwhile, 54,046 (59.0%/50.8%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 157. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
