Alberta adds nearly 400 new COVID cases in last day

Red Deer now has 46 active cases of COVID-19, up 13 from Wednesday.

Recoveries are level at 5,752 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 13 in the last day to 5,841.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 157 active cases as of Thursday, up 18. There are eight hospitalizations, up one, and one person receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The Central Zone has had 172 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate is 4.55 per cent with 528 tests done, with the seven-day average sitting at 3.74 per cent.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Today, Alberta added 397 new cases of COVID-19, which is nearly double Wednesday’s addition of 206. The new cases are out of 7,460 test results for a seven-day positivity rate of 3.57 percent.

The active caseload is now 2,526, up 244 in the last day.

Of those, 1,956 are variants of concern, up 231.

There are 102 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, up five, including 24 in intensive care, up one.

One new death linked to COVID-19 was reported in the past day, meaning the provincial death toll sits at 2,329. It is the first death reported since July 30.

Alberta has delivered 5,355,254 vaccine doses as of Aug. 4, up just 10,469 in the last day.

76.2 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (64.8% total population), and 66.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (56.3% total population)..

In Red Deer, 61,440 (67.0% of eligible & 57.7% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 68 in the last day. Meanwhile, 53,889 (58.8%/50.6%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 183. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
