U15 AAA Red Deer Ernco Braves go 3-1 over August long weekend

The U15 AAA Red Deer Ernco Braves went 3-1 over the August long weekend, improving their season to 27-5-0 and ending a seven game winning streak, while losing the third and final games of the four-game matchup with the 16-9 Parkland Twins.

In game one, the Braves defeated the Twins 7-1 by consistently putting runs on the scoreboard on Saturday.

The Braves got things started in the first inning when Addison Giesbrecht doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Evan Russell earned the win for Braves, surrendering one run on nine hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.

The Braves racked up seven hits on the day. Giesbrecht, Burke Schulte-Bates, and Brett Hall each racked up multiple hits. Hall, Schulte-Bates, and Giesbrecht each managed two hits to lead the team. Brett Belich led the Braves with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases.

In game two, Nathan Flewelling threw a gem on Saturday for the Braves, allowing zero runs and besting the Parkland Twins by a score of 9-0.

The Braves secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the first inning. Luke Schmitt, Noah Nakonechny, Wyatt McKeen, Avery Coumont, and Jake Brooks each drove in runs during the inning.

The Braves opened up scoring in the first inning when an error scored two runs for the squad. Flewelling led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the Braves. The fireballer allowed five hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one.

Nakonechny led the team with three hits in three at bats. The team didn’t commit a single error in the field. Brett Belich had the most chances in the field with nine.

In game three, the Braves weathered a push by the Twins in the sixth inning where the Braves coughed up four runs, but still won 9-5 on Sunday. Hudson Hoy, Easton Katura, and Chayce Providence each had RBIs in the big inning.

The team opened scoring in the second inning when Avery Coumont singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Jake Brooks led the Braves to victory on the mound. The righthander surrendered five runs on six hits over six innings, striking out seven. Wyatt McKeen threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. McKeen recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Braves.

The Braves scattered ten hits in the game. Brooks and Noah Nakonechny each racked up multiple hits for the team. Nakonechny and Brooks all had two hits to lead the squad.

In game four, the Braves lost the lead late in a 16-9 defeat to the Parkland Twins on Sunday.

The Twins were down 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Carter Vaughn singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. The Braves collected nine hits while the Twins had 13 in the high-scoring affair.

The Braves got things started in the first inning when Addison Giesbrecht singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. However, The Twins scored seven runs in the sixth inning.

Luke Schmitt was on the mound for the Braves and went four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking zero. Brett Hall, Wyatt McKeen, and Giesbrecht each contributed in relief for the team.

The Braves collected nine hits with Giesbrecht and Nathan Flewelling collecting three hits each to lead the team.

Parkland Twins had 13 hits in the game.
