Red Deer into single digits for active cases of COVID-19

Editor’s note: Friday’s COVID-19 data from Alberta Health was shared by the province much later than the usual 3:30 p.m.

Red Deer now sits at nine active cases of COVID-19, down one from Thursday.

The city’s total number of recorded cases is up two to 5,794, while recoveries are up three to 5,742.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 39 active cases as of Friday, the same as Thursday. There are six hospitalizations, down one, with zero people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The Central Zone has had 171 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 98 cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 7,609 tests. That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of ~1.27 per cent, up 0.18.

Active cases across the province are up 123 to 799.

There are 84 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down nine, including 26 in intensive care, the same as yesterday.

Two new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day, making the provincial total now 2,322.

On the vaccination front, the province has delivered 5,157,947 doses into the arms of Albertans as of July 22.

60,674 (66.2% of eligible and 57.0% of all) Red Deerians have now received at least one dose, up 75. Of those, 51,196 (55.8%/48.2%) are fully immunized with two doses, up 314.

75.2 per cent of eligible Albertans (63.9% of entire population) have received at least one dose. Meantime, 62.0 per cent of those eligible are now fully immunized, equal to 52.7 per cent of the entire population.
