Active cases provincially creeping up, Red Deer down to 14

There are 14 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer, down three.

That’s a new post-third wave low for the city, and the lowest total in Red Deer since Oct. 9.

Red Deer added zero new cases for the second straight day, and stands at 5,791 cases for the entire pandemic.

Recoveries are also up three to 5,734, while Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last fatality reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 46 active cases, down four from Tuesday. There are seven hospitalizations and zero people are in the ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital, both the same as yesterday. There have been 170 deaths in the zone linked to COVID-19, with none reported in the last day.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across the province, Alberta reported 81 new cases on Wednesday out of 6,479 test results for a seven-day positivity rate of 1.0 per cent, up 0.12 since yesterday.

Active cases are up 43 to 649, making it five days in a row the active caseload has increased following two straight months of declines.

There are 378 in Calgary Zone, 128 in Edmonton Zone, 63 in North Zone, and 34 in South Zone.

There are 95 Albertans in hospital because of COVID-19, down three from Tuesday, and 27 in intensive care, the same as yesterday.

The province’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 2,318, with zero deaths reported Wednesday.

Alberta has delivered 5,100,111 vaccine doses as of July 20. 74.9 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (63.7% total population), and 60.7 per cent are fully vaccinated (51.6% total population).

In Red Deer, 60,518 (66.0% of eligible/56.9% total population) people have received at least one dose,
up 51 in the last day. Meanwhile 50,465 (55.0%/47.4%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 327.
