Red Deer surpasses 60,000 people with minimum one vaccine dose

Red Deer is back up to 19 active cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, according to the latest numbers from the province.

That’s an increase of two from Wednesday.

Recoveries are up three to 5,726 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by five in the last day to 5,788. That’s the largest one-day increase in new cases for the city since June 19 when there were nine new cases in 24 hours.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 44 active cases as of Thursday, down four, with six hospitalizations and one person receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, both the same as yesterday. The Central Zone has had 170 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

The province saw what’s hopefully just a blip on Thursday, that being an increase in the number of active cases provincially.

It’s something Albertans have become used to not seeing over the past two months, as active cases peaked around 26,000 during a third wave before coming down steadily.

The active caseload is now 578, up from 569.

Today, Alberta added 53 new cases of COVID-19, out of 6,216 test results for a seven-day positivity rate of 0.67 per cent, down 0.01.

There are 107 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down six, including 31 in intensive care, down two.

One new death linked to COVID-19 was reported in the past day, meaning the provincial death toll is now 2,312.

As of July 14, 4,947,062 (+26,645) doses have been administered in Alberta. 74.4 (+0.1) per cent of eligible Albertans (63.3% of entire population) have now received at least one dose. Of those, 57.1 (+0.6) per cent (48.6% of entire population) are fully vaccinated with two doses.

In Red Deer, 60,068 (65.5% of eligible & 56.5% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 75 in the last day. Meanwhile, 47,927 (52.3%/45.0%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 511.
