Fatal crash between train and SUV north of Wetaskiwin Sunday

A woman is dead and a child in serious condition following a collision between a train and SUV north of Wetaskiwin Sunday afternoon.

Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to the scene on Highway 2A and Township Road 470 at approximately 3:50 p.m.

Mounties say their preliminary investigation has revealed the SUV was travelling westbound on Township Road 470 when a collision occurred with a moving northbound train at a crossing.

The adult female driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene. A child in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken via EMS to an Edmonton hospital.

Wetaskiwin RCMP along with CP police continue to investigate the collision.
