The 2020 Mayor’s Recognition Awards went virtual this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Each individual or group had their award hand-delivered.

This year, 41 individuals and teams are being recognized. A full list is available at reddeer.ca.

Included are two recipients under the category of Mayor’s Special Awards, those being the 2019 Canada Winter Games Volunteers and Central Alberta Refugee Effort for its Translation and Interpretation Program.

“To all our distinguished award recipients, congratulations and thank you! We are so proud of you and the lasting impact you have made and continue to make for the people of our community,” says Mayor Tara Veer. “We hope to be able to shake your hand and congratulate you in person very soon. We look forward to next year, when we are all able to gather for the Mayor’s Recognition Awards and community life once again.”

Patricia Martens accepted an award on behalf of the 2019 Games’ over 5,000 volunteers.

The translation program, it’s said, has helped translate over 6,000 documents for more than 1,700 meetings and 2,500 immigrants and refugees since 2010.
