Red Deer down to 16 active cases of COVID-19

Red Deer is down to 16 active cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, according to the latest numbers from the province.

That’s down two from Wednesday’s total of 18. It was two months ago today the city peaked at 911 active cases at the height of a local third wave.

Recoveries are up three to 5,717 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose one to 5,776.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The Central Zone as a whole has 74 active cases as of Thursday, down five, with 14 hospitalizations, down two, and one person receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The Central Zone has had 170 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today. However, one previously reported Central Zone death was unlinked from COVID.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, just 23 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Thursday out of 5,897 test results for a positivity rate of ~0.4 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 697, a one-day decrease of 48.

There are 133 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down seven, including 32 in intensive care, up two.

One new death linked to COVID-19 was reported in the past day, however one previously reported death was unlinked from COVID, meaning the provincial death toll remains at 2,307. As noted above, the unlinked death was in Central Zone.

Details:

· Date of death: Nov. 27, 2020. A female in her 80s in North Zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.

As of July 7, 4,727,966 vaccine doses have been administered in Alberta. 73.7 per cent of eligible Albertans (62.7% of entire population) have now received at least one dose. Of those 52 per cent (44.2%) are fully vaccinated with two doses.

In Red Deer, 59,539 (64.9% of eligible & 55.9% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 89 in the last day. Meanwhile, 44,447 (48.5%/41.8%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 657.
