Active COVID cases increase by two in Red Deer

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer has increased by two, to 20.

According to the latest update from Alberta Health, Red Deer’s recoveries total 5,712 while the number of cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic is 5,775.

The number of deaths in Red Deer attributed to the virus has increased by one, to 43.

The entire Central Zone has 86 active cases as of Tuesday, down 14, with 16 hospitalizations, down three, including one receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one from Monday. The zone has had 171 deaths linked to the virus, with one reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

33 new cases of COVID-19 were reported across Alberta on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases in the province now to 763, down 68 from Monday.

A dozen new variant cases have also been identified, bringing the total number of active variant cases to 484 or 63 per cent of all active cases.

With 4,415 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 0.7 per cent.

There are 138 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, up two from Monday, with 32 of those patients in ICU, the same as Monday.

Two more deaths have also been reported, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 2,305.

Details:

  • Date of death: June 14. A female in her 90s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.
  • Date of death: July 4. A female in her 60s in Central Zone. The case included comorbidities.

The are 397 active cases of coronavirus in the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Calgary Zone, 134 in the Edmonton Zone, 126 in the North Zone, 18 in the South Zone and two more in unconfirmed locations.

4,629,699 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of July 5.

73.5 per cent of the 12+ population has received at least one dose (62.5% total population) and 49.6 per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (42.2% total population).
