City council tables Red Deer Polytechnic zoning change
Red Deer city council tabled a rezoning resolution on Monday which would create a new district specific to the lands which Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) sits on.
Last Friday, The City said the new zoning was developed in consultation with RDP officials, and that it would better support the college’s vision for the future.
Current zoning, which is similar to that used for other school sites, doesn’t take into account campus features such as residences and commercial ventures, which is an area of focus the institution could expand in the future.
“They (RDP) have a district in place that serves them relatively well. There isn’t any development in the wings awaiting this new district,” said Emily Damberger, City Planning Manager. “I do feel the additional time, though I’m sure RDP would like to proceed, won’t cause any significant issues with the polytechnic.”
