Rebels select Czech forward at CHL Import Draft

The Red Deer Rebels went into the CHL Import Draft looking to add an impact player up front, and they hope they’ve done just that.

The Rebels used the 14^th overall selection at Wednesday’s draft on Frantisek Formanek, a Czech-born left-shooting winger.

With Finnish defenceman Christoffer Sedoff informing the team he plans to return for the 2021-22 WHL season, the Rebels passed on their second selection on Wednesday.

Frantisek, who is 17 (2004-born), is listed at five-foot-seven and 179 pounds. He played last season in the HC Pardubice organization and also suited up for one game on the top Czech league, scoring one goal.

Rebels training camp will commence in August. Their first preseason game is Sept. 11 at Edmonton. The regular season opens Oct. 1 with the Rebels also visiting Edmonton.
