Red Deer Regional Hospital receives posthumous donation from former resident

Officials with Red Deer Regional Health Foundation have announced a posthumous donation of $50,000 for the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

The donation is from Gertrude Lee, a former long-time resident of the Evarts District in Red Deer County, about 13 kilometres southwest of Red Deer.

The daughter of George and Arla Lee, Gertrude passed away last July at the age of 93 after spending a short time at the continuing care facility in Rimbey.

Foundation officials say Lee spent all of her working years at CIBC, being transferred to various branches. She started in Sylvan Lake and would go on to spend time in Eckville, Ponoka, Lethbridge, and Calgary.

Lee is said to have greatly enjoyed planting flowers and gardening. After her retirement, she moved back home to care for her mother. Lee and her brother stayed on their parents’ farm and she spent many happy years there before moving to the care centre, say Foundation officials.

“We are very grateful to Gertrude’s family for this donation,” says Foundation CEO Manon Therriault, in a press release. “This donation will help us fund today’s equipment needs to ensure we can provide the best healthcare for central Albertans.”

Donations to RDRHF provides funding for programs, services, and medical equipment for Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and other health care centres throughout AHS Central Zone.

Contributions help fund and purchase vital equipment and give local healthcare professionals the tools they need to provide the best possible care to patients at RDRHC.
