Academy of Learning announces new ownership for Alberta campuses

Jun 27, 2021 | 11:00 AM

The Academy of Learning Career College (AOLCC) has announced new ownership for its seven Alberta campuses, including one in Red Deer.

There are three others in Edmonton, two in Calgary, and one in Medicine Hat. Red Deer’s is located at 2965 Bremner Avenue.

According to the AOLCC, the business has been operated by Elmer and Audrey Brattberg for 25 years, but they’ve recently welcomed entrepreneur and investor Stephen Reid as a new franchise owner.

Reid’s goal is to improve the local economy by creating fast-track career opportunities as the unemployment rate continues to climb.

“Our province has gone through unprecedented hardships, and this is a way to invest in creating a strong future for Alberta by improving the careers and earning ability of our citizens,” says Reid, who will operate the seven new locations. “This in turn will improve the economy, and quality of life for all Albertans.”

The majority of the AOLCC’s programs require a Grade 12 diploma with time commitments ranging from 18 weeks to 12 months, depending on the program.

According to a release, the AOLCC is Canada’s largest career college network offering programs in health care, accounting, community service, IT support, graphic and web design, legal assisting, hospitality and many more.

The release notes that the AOLCC has maintained a job placement rate of 80 per cent, helping over 10,000 grads find a new career with an average 60 per cent earning increase from minimum wage.
