Over 30,000 Red Deerians fully vacinated as active COVID count continues to fall

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer is now the lowest it’s been since October.

Red Deer has 47 active cases as of Wednesday, down seven from Tuesday, according to the latest numbers released by the province.

Recoveries are up nine to 5,665 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer during the pandemic rose just two to 5,753.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 41.

Elsewhere locally as of Wednesday (by municipality):

The Central Zone as a whole has 175 active cases, down four from Tuesday, and 20 hospitalizations (up two), including six in the ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital. There have now been 166 deaths in the zone linked to COVID-19.

Across the province, Alberta reported 92 new cases on Wednesday out of 6,335 test results for a positivity rate of about 1.5 per cent.

Active cases are down 97 to 1,676.

There are 199 Albertans in hospital because of COVID-19, down one from Tuesday, and 56 in intensive care, up two.

The province’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now 2,292 after two more fatalities were reported Wednesday.

Alberta has delivered 3,903,238 vaccine doses as of June 22. 71 percent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (60.5% total population) and 31.5 percent are fully vaccinated (26.9% total population).

In Red Deer, 57,823 people have received at least one dose while 30,284 are fully vaccinated with two doses.
